It has been 5 days since Zach took an afternoon nap. Yesterday he was so tired that he couldn't walk straight, or use a fork, or speak clearly, or anything. But as soon as he gets in that bed he is bouncing and laughing and having the time of his life. Finally I put him in the car to break the cycle and we drove. He was asleep in less than 15 minutes. Unfortunately, 15 minutes is just enough time to get good and lost. So after he had been asleep for about half and hour, I had to pull over to look at a map. That, of course, woke him up and he wouldn't go back to sleep. So he was awake for the whole hour and a half it took to figure out how to get home - in rush hour! But the plan did work, because it did break the cycle.

Today I tired him out all morning. We had a plan and a list of things to do. We went to the bank and the bagel store and then the library. We chose tons of new books and then went out to the playground. We met another little boy his age and the two of them had a blast running around and playing with the leaves. When we got home we ate a peanut butter sandwich and read a ton of books until he was good and tired. Then he went right to sleep and slept for 2 hours! Yeah! This afternoon he was my happy little boy again!

We'll see what happens tomorrow

Recently Zach's ploy to stall for time at bedtime has been to say he needs medicine. Not wanting to deny him medicine if he really feels bad, I asked him tonight what the medicine was for. He told me his throat hurt. I'm not sure what made me ask this to a 2 year old, but I said, "What does it feel like?" He said, "Macaroni and Cheese!" I don't know what that means but I just had to laugh! I told him that if his throat still felt like macaroni and cheese in the morning that we would try to make it feel better. Now I have to think of a way to do that...

The other day Zach and Tom drove past a high school and Zach wanted to know what it was. Tom said it was a school and that Claire and Esther went to a high school. Zach said he wanted to go hang out with Claire and Esther. Later Zach told me he wanted to go to high school and wanted to know when he could go. I told him he would go when he was 14. He thought for a minute and said, "Today I'm two years old but I am almost 14 and I can go to high school." So now one of his favorite things to say is "I'm almost 14 Mama!"

We were at the library earlier this week and Zach and another little boy were having a hard time getting along. Zach was getting a drink of water from the fountain and for some reason this caused conflict. Anyway, during the course of their argument the other boy said, "Well, you can't come to my house!" Zach said, "I don't want to go to your house!" I guess I don't need to worry about Zach sticking up for himself!

Cars
Zach has a very cute name for vehicles. Anything that goes is called a "go thing"

Tonight we were pretending to be race cars. He was Lightening McQueen, I was Sally and Daddy was Luigi from the movie Cars. He kept thinking of things to do where he would have to say my pretend name. For example, he would ask me a question and when I answered he said, "That's right, Sally." The game continued all during bath time (we had to wash his wheels and trunk) and bed time. When I left his room he said, "Good night Sally. I love you" and blew me a kiss.

We were riding in the car with Nonny and Granddad and came to some construction where the whole road was torn up and a brand new strip of concrete was running down one side. Nonny and I were talking about how funny it seemed to start with that section and how there wasn't even a shoulder. I said I thought maybe they were going to do it in sections and maybe they would add a shoulder later. From the back seat we heard, "Maybe no toe!" It took a while to figure out what Z-man meant, but then it dawned on me. Maybe if there is no shoulder there would be no toe too! Head, shoulders, knees and toes! We laughed and laughed!

Zach is very interesed in knowing everyone's favorite color. He knows that My favorite is purple, daddy's favorite is orange, granddad's favorite is red, and Gaga's favortie is blue ("Just like me!"). Today we had this conversation:

Z: My favorite is red and Zachary's favorite is blue.
A: Aren't you Zachary?
Z: No...I'm granddad!

This morning we went out and did tons of errands. When we got home Zach found his plastic keys and took them over to the door. He held them up to the lock and said, "I'm going to do errand!"

We had our first real movie night tonight. I made popcorn and we sat in my bed and watched Bob the Builder. Zach loved it!

Zach and I were singing this song and I was helping him remember the words by pointing to each part of the body. I was wearing a striped shirt, so when I pointed to my shoulders Zach said, "Stripes!" So for a while the song went, "Head, stripes, and knees and toes, knees and toes." Zach thought that was pretty funny. Then it was even funnier to sing, "Hair, stripes and pants and socks, pants and socks!"
